Project Background - AAA in Telekom Serbia

In 2018. Telekom Serbia sought for a solution provider to replace their existing AAA solution and enhance the system to better serve the users of their fixed network, mobile network, and to allow for implementation of the VoWiFi service. The solution was to be deployed in a virtual environment using Network Function Virtualization (NFV) concept.

Within the existing AAA platform, Telekom Serbia had already established cooperation with several different vendors, so the new vendor was to replace the various different components of the system with a single platform. The project encompassed implementation of consolidated (virtual) AAA server that would introduce simplicity in terms of management, operation, and reducing cost of maintenance for each individual AAA server in the network that is implemented for specific use.

OpenProvider vAAA implementation - Replacing 4 AAA solutions with a single platform

To meet the needs of Telekom Serbia, Logate implemented its OpenProvider vAAA VNF solution. OpenProvider vAAA VNF is developed in accordance with standards and specifications defined by ETSI NFV Industry Specification Group (ISG) and it is aligned with all requirements currently set by ETSI NFV ISG, and will be further developed in a way to maintain compliance with upcoming standards defined by ETSI NFV ISG. OpenProvider vAAA was implemented in a way to have the following characteristics:

  • Delivery in the virtual environment based on network function virtualization (NFVI) concept
  • Converged vAAA (hybrid) for Fix, WiFi, Mobile and Hybrid
  • Implementation in a multivendor environment with Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson
  • Real-time control and management over subscriber network access
  • Easy service building supported by the low code scripting language, OpenFunction
  • Numerous options for handling charging and rating
  • Personalized experience through tiered-service bundles
  • High availability and scalability – fully redundant deployment with stateful processing across all nodes
  • Web-ased administration interface used for both service configuration and monitoring
  • Integration with OSS/BSS systems.
